We are big fans of personality profiles.  We have found many of them to be an insightful look into our own motivations as well as those of the people closest to us.  Not only does understanding that help us to be kinder to ourselves, but it also helps us to be kinder to those around us.  One of our favorite resources is Gretchen Rubin's book "The Four Tendencies: The Indispensable Personality Profiles That Reveal How to Make Your Life Better (and Other People's Lives Better, Too)"
